Seasonal care calendar
September pond care in Pennsylvania
Cooler nights bring algae crashes and the start of construction season for docks, dredging and dam repairs.
- Care
Planktonic algae blooms often crash around the first frost, and the pond can clear almost overnight. A sudden die-off can also drop oxygen, so watch the fish.

Dredging a man-made pond? Restoring a small man-made pond's original depth is waived from Chapter 105; E&S, PNDI and drawdown rules still apply. Repairing the dam? Regulated dam? DEP Dam Safety decides first. Small pond dams: no Chapter 105 permit to repair, but E&S applies.
